Community Night: Coorie time

This is our informal organisational and social evening. Over the course of the evening we'll be sharing a meal together, getting to know each other better and exploring the ways in which we can deepen our bonds as a sangha through future community nights. Come along and contribute new ideas or just relax and spend time with your fellow sangha members.

Wednesday Lunchtime Drop In Meditation

From Wednesday 10th Jan 2018 to Wednesday 19th Dec 2018, 12.30pm

This popular lunchtime class is designed for anyone working or living locally. Take half an hour out of your weekly routine to refresh your body and mind with meditation.  This class is suitable for experienced meditators and also those with no prior experience of sitting meditation. It runs from 12.30 -1pm.

Please note that as this class is only 30 mins long any instruction will be brief and minimal. For a fuller introduction to meditation please see our Thursday Morning Drop In.

There is no fee for the course. All our meditation and Buddhism events have no charge.

This weekly meditation drop-in is suitable for complete beginners, and also those with some experience of the mindfulness of breathing and metta bhavana (development of loving kindness) meditations.

Dharma Day Festival

Soon after his Enlightenment the Buddha rose from where he had been sitting, went to find his former disciples and shared his experience with them. This event, which happened at a place called Sarnath in northern India, might be called the start of the Buddhist religion and it is this that Dharma Day celebrates.

Bodhiccha and Allan are both pupils of Wee Kee Jin and are certified instructors of the School of Central Equilibrium founded by him. This school teaches the Yang style short form of Cheng Man-Ching, as developed by Master Huang of Malaysia. Master Huang developed the form as a martial art and brought into it some elements of White Crane karate, but the form as we teach it remains close to that taught by Cheng Man-Ching.

Pete has been practising Tai Chi since 1994 and teaching since 2009.  He initially studied Yang style long form under Alistair Sutherland and then latterly studied the short form under Tom Williams.  He is a registered instructor with the Tai Chi Union for Great Britain.

The class caters for beginners & regulars and includes instruction in the Yang short form, Qigong (energy cultivation) and a short meditation. The focus of the class is health and well-being.

Sangha Day Festival

All of us need other people to learn from. If we are to practise the Dharma we need the example and teaching of others who have done so before us, especially those who have gained insight into the nature of reality themselves.

It’s a joyous thing to mark the fact that we don’t have to go it alone – to rejoice in our friends and those who inspire us every day. 

So on Sangha Day we celebrate both the ideal of creating a spiritual community, and also the actual spiritual community which we are trying to build.
