The Rainy Season retreat is an annual period of seclusion and practice for the members of the Triratan Buddhist Community in Glasgow. The whole centre is closed to the public and nothing else happens except the Rainy Season programme.
The Rainy Season retreat is only open to members of the Triratna Buddhist Order and MItras in the Triratna Buddhist Community. Come for a day/ part of day or the whole week - whatever you can. Offered on a dana basis.
"This year the Rainy Season is based around the theme of Virya – energy in pursuit of the good – the fourth paramita on the Bodhisattva’s path. During the week there will be a daily programme of meditation, talks and presentations, informal discussion and puja. We’ll draw on the material found in three texts:
- Know Your Mind, Sangharakshita’s seminar exploring specific mental events (all very familiar to each one of us!)
- The Jewel Ornament of Liberation, by Gampopa, a disciple of Milarepa
- The Bodhicaryavatara, by Shantideva
The week will culminate with a sangha weekend, where we will study some of this material – sharing our lives with our friends through discussion and reflection; meditation; puja; and of course supper!
But before all of that we’ll start with the obvious and explore the nature of laziness – that ‘unwilling mind’ that all of us have to learn to recognise and make conscious at every stage of the Path." Saddhanandi, Chair of Adhistana.
