SKILLS AUCTION
Last Saturday we held a skills auction at the new premises. This was organised brilliantly by the Fun Fundraising Kula. Sadly Gunasiddhi wasn’t able to be with us as she had come down with Covid but, it was so well organised in advance that we were able to go ahead pretty smoothly. There were 37 offerings and they had been put together in a fabulous, fun catalogue beforehand. Some online bids had already been made and Keirstan kept an eye on those. Carunalaka was our auctioneer and did a great job with her (rather noisy) gavel. She forgot to say ‘going going gone’ in the first half but she was put right by a number of the participants and corrected this minor glitch in the second half.
It was really good fun with over 40 people attending. I’m told the cakes were very tasty and they certainly looked it. One of the best bits of the afternoon was the live music. Stephen, Pete, Jen and Laura played two sets and they were great. We even had a dance session and I have a favourite memory of lots of us dancing to Jailhouse Rock. It feels like we are building a good atmosphere there and it does feel more like home every time we use it.
Oh - and we made some money! The final count isn’t done yet as we still have to collect from some of the online bids but it’s safe to say that we raised around £3000. Well done everyone who participated in any way whether offering a skill or bidding or just coming along and having a good time. Massive thanks to the fun fundraising kula: Graham; Gunasiddhi; Satyavajri; Muditashuri and Padmaprajna. We raised some funds and we had a lot of fun. I look forward to more.
DHARMA DAY
The next event to be held there will be Dharma Day on Sunday 6th July. This will be our first Festival day to be held at the new premises and I am really looking forward to that.
Order Members can arrive at 10am for an Order practice.
Day will start at 11am with a meditation and end about 4pm.
In the morning I will give a talk on “Why the Buddha decided to teach”
In the afternoon there will be a puja and readings about what the Buddha taught in his first Sermon, known as the First Turning of the Wheel of the Dharma.
There won’t be any Mitra ceremonies on Dharma Day but there will be on our next festival - Padmasambhava day.
Bring lunch to share and also bring cushions if you would prefer to sit on the floor, as only chairs are available.
I hope to see many of you there in what will be the first of many many festival days in Woodside Crescent.
For now, as always, may all beings be well, may all beings find true happiness and its causes and may all beings be free from suffering.
